CLINGMAN, Carl Melvin


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Sunday, November 23, 2014 Carl Melvin Clingman was born in Prescott, Arizona, to Lois and Gerald Melvin Clingman on July 28, 1948. He resided most of his life in Chino Valley and always laughingly said that he was too poor to leave. He served our country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Washington, California and Texas. He was deployed to Vietnam in March 1968 until March 1969. Upon returning to civilian life in Arizona, he held a number of jobs until he followed Mel Sr. into the construction field. He was proud to be a member of Operating Engineers #428 and worked on a number of "reaches" of the CAP. In March 2003, Mel was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, which led to his early retirement as a driver for Yavapai Materials. He is survived by his faithful companions, Scooter and Misty; wife Patricia; mother Lois; daughters, Lori Allen of Chino Valley, Melinda (Mindy and Mark) Sheffield of Waverly, Virginia, Regina Cushman of Yuma, Arizona, and Alaina Sanders, also of Yuma. He has three grandsons; two granddaughters; and one great grandson. He also is survived by three sisters and brothers-in-law, Cheryl and Jim Alexander, Carol and Chuck Osterman, and Jack and Jeri Miller; two aunts; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his dad, Mel Sr.; and his twin grandchildren, Landon and Abby Sanders. He was relieved of the pains of this world in the Hospice Unit of the Prescott VA on Nov. 20, 2014. Graveside services with full military honors will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014, at the Prescott VA Cemetery with his friend, Marcus Walker, officiating.
