Peggy Ann Owens Strain of Idaho Falls passed away Tuesday, Nov 26, 2013, with her husband at her side, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Peggy was born Feb 16, 1938, in Teton City, Idaho, to Eugene Owens and Ethel Richman Owens. She attended Teton Elementary and graduated from South Fremont High School, where she was one of four local students on the National Honor Roll. She attended the University of Idaho, where she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees. Peggy played saxophone and clarinet in the school dance and pep bands, and she also played the piano and organ.
Peggy married the love of her life, Jack Dean Strain, on July 27, 1955, in Rigby.
Peggy worked at the Department of Energy as the director of the O & P Division and later as the director of the University Outreach Program. She served on the Bonneville County Planning and Zoning Commission for six years.
She loved all outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing, hiking and horseback riding. She was a ski instructor at Bear Gulch in Ashton and later at Kelly Canyon for several years. Peggy enjoyed family activities and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jack Strain of Idaho Falls; son, Lex (Stacie) Strain of Idaho Falls; sisters, Rayola (Darrell) Singleton of Wickenburg, Ariz., and Betty Hill of St Anthony; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Lance Strain; a brother, Blaine Owens; and a sister, Colleen Kirkham.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Friday, Nov 29, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N Ridge Ave. in Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends from noon to 12:45pm Friday at Wood Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ashton-Pineview Cemetery.
