Lamont Mortuary of Globe, Globe, Arizona Derryl Gene Meeks, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2014 at his residence in Miami, AZ. He was 73 . Visitation will be Monday, December 1, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Word of Life Assembly of God Church in Miami, AZ. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will be at Globe Cemetery in Globe, AZ. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Arizona Silver Belt, Globe, Arizona, Wednesday, December 03, 2014 Derryl Gene Meeks, age 73, of Miami, Ariz. passed away on Monday, Nov. 24, 2014 at his residence in Miami, Ariz. He was born in Paris, Ill. on April 24, 1941, the son of Leonard and June (Smith) Meeks. He had worked for Mid-State and also worked for ADOT for more than 20 years. Derryl enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was on the board of the Miami Assembly of God Church, where he also sang in the choir. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in November of 1958 and served his country proudly. He was in demolition and flew to urgent assignments around the world with the Combat Engineers. He was honorably discharged in February of 1962. Derryl is survived by his wife, Shirlee (Shaffer) Meeks; his children, Derryl Jay and Deanna G. Meeks; his sister, Mae Ann Gallagher; his brothers, Leonard “Sonny” and Larry D. Meeks; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation was held on Monday, Dec. 1, 2014 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Word of Life Assembly of God Church in Miami, Ariz. Funeral Services will followed at the church at 2 p.m. Interment was at Globe Cemetery in Globe, Ariz. Assisting the family; Lamont Mortuary of Globe.
