Thomas Eugene Goodman
(August 3, 1925 - October 19, 2014)
Thomas Eugene “Gene” Goodman passed away on October 19, 2014, in Vernon, Arizona. He was born August 3, 1925, at the Goodman Sawmill, 6 miles south of Vernon, to William E. and Lula Mary Gholson Goodman.
He spent his younger years in and around Vernon. He was a member of the Submarine Service of the U.S. Navy during WWII.
When he returned home from military service, he married his 6th grade sweetheart, Thelma Mineer, in 1947. He learned the electrical trade while serving in the Navy and spent his life as an electrical and building contractor. They spent their early years of marriage in Winslow where Barbara, Tom, and Virginia were born. They moved to Flagstaff in 1951 where they resided for the past 63 years.
Gene served in many civic and church positions.
He is survived by his brother, James L. Goodman; his children Barbara (Fred) Klug of Show Low; Thomas E. (Carolyn) Goodman, Jr., of Flagstaff; and Virginia (Stephen) West of Cave Creek; 6 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Gene was preceded in death by his eternal companion, Thelma, in 2013.
A visitation will be held Friday, October 24, 6-8 p.m., at Norvel Owens Mortuary, 914 E. Route 66, Flagstaff, AZ 86001.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 25, at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Lake Mary Chapel, 4165 S. Lake Mary Road, Flagstaff, Arizona 85005, with a visitation from 9 to 9:45 a.m.
Interment will follow with a procession from the chapel to the Citizens Cemetery, Veterans’ Section, in Flagstaff.
