DRISCOLL, Ronald W. (Ron)

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Wednesday, December 10, 2014 Ronald W. Driscoll Dec. 14, 1947 - Dec. 2, 2014 Ron grew up in Ithaca, New York, and graduated from Ithaca High School in 1966. Upon graduation, he worked for Cornell University in the Materials Science Center, while taking classes to further his career. In between all of this, he married his soul mate, Kathy. He then went to work for the State of New York in the cartography department after a couple of years. He then went to work for Tompkins County, New York, in their tax property division, designing all of their tax maps. In 1972 the great urge to move west struck him. He packed up his family, which consisted of two toddlers, and went off to Durango, Colorado, where he formed his own successful company designing tax maps for over half of the counties in the state of Colorado. It was while living in Durango that he became keenly interested in the mining industry, studying geology and working with his mentor, well-known geologist Ed Barge. It was during this time that he met his best friend and business partner for over 35 years, Bill Sheriff. They pursued all sorts of mining ventures; the highlight of all of this was the forming of a public Uranium Company, called Energy Metals Corp., where they rang the bell on Wall Street in 2007. It was during Ron and Kathy's many travels that they made up their mind to put roots down in Prescott, Arizona, to get away from the harsh winters in Durango. As soon as they were settled, they relocated their children Dawn and Eric to Arizona to make their family whole again. Anyone who knew Ron was quite aware of his ultra-conservative values and he would eagerly express his views to anyone that would listen. His family was his greatest joy, especially his grandchildren. He leaves behind his wife Kathy of 48 years; daughter Dawn (Kip); son Eric; grandchildren Tatum (Austin), Zachary and Katherine; his brother Larry; sisters Donna and Michelle; plus several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents John and Mabel, and his brother Gary. According to Ron's wishes, his body was cremated. He did not want a memorial, so there will be a celebration of his life sometime after the holidays. Please donate in Ron's honor to the Heritage Park Zoo, Circle L Animal Hospital or the Salvation Army. Information provided by survivors.
