The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Friday, December 12, 2014 Betty Kells Unkrich, 86, of Groom Creek, Arizona, passed away peacefully on Dec. 5, 2014, in Tucson, Arizona. Betty was born in Ohio on March 22, 1928. She and her husband, Harmon, moved their family to Phoenix, Arizona in 1958. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her siblings Hugh, Marjorie and Grace and her beloved daughter, Linda. She is survived by her brother, Jack Kells of Prescott Valley, Arizona; her children Pamela Unkrich of Bloomington, Illinois, Carl (Lois) Unkrich of Tucson, Arizona, and David (Cammy) Unkrich of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; grandchildren Chris (Troy) Biedenharn, Morgan (Aurora) Phillips, Karl Jacobson, Wesley Jacobson, Stephen Unkrich and Kelly Unkrich. She had 10 great-grandchildren, Ashleigh, Anthony, Stephanie, Stephen, Wesley, Lucia, Savannah, Indiana, Kayla and Mitchell; two great-great-grandchildren Gabriel and Sid; and many nieces and nephews. Betty graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in education and a minor in art. She taught grade school for a number of years in Phoenix before retiring with her husband to their home in Groom Creek. There she pursued her passion for watercolors and other forms of art for many years. The last few years she lived in Tucson near her son, Carl. Betty was a loving and encouraging mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was always "up" for going anywhere at any time, especially if it included eating out! She traveled every chance she got and never turned down an opportunity to visit her children and close friends. There will be two memorial services for Betty. The first will be in Groom Creek, Arizona, in late spring. The second will be in the fall at her daughter's home in Bloomington, Illinois. Cremation was provided by Angel Valley Funeral Home.
