The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Thursday, December 11, 2014 Mary Ellen Kapp was born June 7, 1924, in Montevideo, Minnesota, to Timothy and Bess (Elizabeth) Warner and passed away Dec. 5, 2014, at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Jack Lincoln Kapp; and by her three siblings, Gale, David and Betty. Mary is survived by her children, Kevin and his wife Mary Anne, Jana and her husband Dave Thompson, Karen Kapp, Janet Kapp and Mary Clare McShane. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Travis Kapp, Megan Kapp Folkers and husband Kyle, Kyle Thompson, Cody Callaway, Michaela McShane, Tyler Callaway, Kelly McShane, Brianna McShane and Lauren McShane. Mary was recently blessed with two great-grandchildren, Collin and Annabella. She is also survived by her faithful cat Abbie. Mary graduated with a nursing degree from St. Catherine's College in Minneapolis in 1944. She then moved to Fort Whipple in Prescott as a member of the US Nurse Cadet Corps. While in Prescott, she met Jack, who had recently returned home from WWII. They married in 1947 and lived in Prescott until 1966, when the family moved to Phoenix. After raising her five children with Jack, Mary returned to nursing at St. Joseph's Hospital, where she worked for many years before she and Jack retired in Sun City. Mary loved playing bridge, traveling, reading and spending time on the golf course. She was also a loyal Phoenix Suns fan from the beginning of the franchise. A devout Catholic, Mary was a member of the Clarets of Sacred Heart Parish in Prescott, and a Eucharistic Minister and lector at St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Sun City. A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. on Dec. 20, 2014, at Sacred Heart Church, 150 Fleury Ave., Prescott, Arizona. The funeral mass will be preceded by a rosary at 9 a.m. Our mother, Mary, will be deeply missed by her family and her many friends. We wish to thank our friends at The Peridot Retirement and Assisted Living Center where Mary spent the last year of her life, and also Hospice Family Care for their wonderful support.
