John James King passed away Dec. 5, 2014 in Las Vegas. He was born April
2, 1923 in Moline, Ill. to Herbert and August King. He graduated from
Moline High School in 1941 and was drafted into the U.S. Navy during
World War II. He served as a storekeeper third class, stationed in
Oakland, Calif.
He married Norma Beery in 1945.
John was discharged from the Navy in April 1946. He became a carpenter
apprentice and attended trade school for two years. He worked as a
carpenter in Oakland and nearby Richmond, Calif. They moved to Smith
Valley, Nev. in 1958 where he became a general contractor working in
Carson City, Nev. and Eastern Sierra to Mammoth, Calif.
He retired from Meeks Lumber Company where he ran the door shed for ten
years. Upon retiring John and Norma motor-homed full time and settled in
Lake Havasu City in 1985. He loved going to Mexico and spent many years
visiting Puerto Penasco, Sonora Mexico.
John is preceded in death by his parents and four siblings.
Norma, his wife of 68 years; his son and daughter; five grandchildren
and two great-grandchildren, survives him.
A memorial celebration of life will be at a later date.
