WEBB,
James (Jay) Wilford
The White Mountain Independent,
Show Low, Arizona ~ 12/23/2014
James “Jay” Wilford Webb, 90, longtime resident of Lakeside, died Dec. 18, 2014, in Gilbert from a long illness, where he had been in a care facility since Oct. 2012.
He was born Oct. 5, 1924, in Pinedale to Della Ray Webb and Jonathan Henry Webb, eighth of 10 children.
Jay’s early childhood was spent in the Lakeside area. He married Marion Brenay May 5, 1941, and they had six children; however, their second son, Jamar, lived for only a few hours.
Their early married life was in Vernon from where Jay left in 1943 to serve in the Army during World War II. He came home a sergeant with a bronze star for his heroic actions in Germany.
Jay continued working in the logging business with his father and brothers. Jay and Marion moved to Lakeside with their three small children in the early ‘50s. There they remained for over 50 years.
Jay was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints his entire life. He exemplified Christ’s teaching by caring for others and serving in many church callings. He and Marion served as stake missionaries after they moved to Lakeside and as temple missionaries in the Mesa Temple in the ‘90s.
Jay will be remembered as a kind, quiet, gentle person with exceptional physical strength and endurance and a keen, dry sense of humor. He will be missed by his family and all who knew him.
His wife Marion preceded him in death Jan. 13, 2012.
He is survived by his children, Sheldon (Inez) Webb of Casa Grande/Lakeside, Diane (Scott) Hall of Kentucky, Drinette (Don) Ellison of San Tan Valley/Lakeside, Daphne (Curtis) Scott of Saratoga Springs, Utah, DeEdra (Richard) Breckenridge of Woodland Hills, Utah; and 15 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, at the Lakeside Stake Center.
