Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Sunday, January 4, 2015 - Dominica “Mamie” Helgerson, 88, of Trego, Wis., formerly of Rockford, Ill., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2014. Dominica was born Feb. 14, 1926 in Rockford, Ill. to Peter and Caterina (Geraci) Salamone. Mamie attended both St. Anthony of Padua School and Bishop Muldoon High School in Rockford, Ill. She married Orvus C. Helgerson, Jr., March 2, 1957. She retired after a long career at Sundstrand Aviation, moving to their lake home in Trego, Wis. Mamie and Orvus became winter snowbirds in Lake Havasu City for many years where they enjoyed the company of many friends. Mamie very much enjoyed being a member at the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Spooner, the Altar and Rosary Society, and the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, golfing, fishing, canning, playing Bunko, gambling, playing cards, especially Cabin Fever. Survivors include her loving husband Orvus; daughters, Jacqueline (Jim) Petty and Denise (Neil) Patterson; son, Gregory (Mary) Helgerson; sisters, Gina (Bill) Mautino in Arizona and Rosemarie (Rod) Weller in Illinois; grandchildren, Jackie Allikas, Brian (Megan) Allikas, Vince Helgerson and Joe Helgerson; great-grandchildren Dalton Patterson, Isaac Allikas, Lucia Lopez and Corbin Allikas. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Adeline and her brother-in-law, Salvatore. A memorial service was Jan. 3, at noon at the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Spooner, Wis. with Father Ed Anderson, celebrant; with visitation at the Church, from 10 a.m. to noon. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Spooner, Wis. would be greatly appreciated.
