Mrs. Rosa Martin, Pioneer Resident, Passes Away
Mrs. Rosa A. Martin, aged 83, died last night at her home, 627 West Gurley street. She had been in ill health for some time.
Mrs. Martin was born on the Maxwell Grant in New Mexico, September 20, 1862, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Traux. Her parents came from Michigan and had intended going on to California, but remained on the grant seven years and then moved to Denver.
Mrs. Martin came to Prescott in 1889 from Hackberry and had lived here every since.
She was the widow of W. J. 'Jack' Martin, a well known mining engineer of Congress, Crown King and other mining districts of this area. He died here in 1925.
Mrs. Martin was known for her many kindnesses to the needy. She loved her home on the hill and often spoke in gratitude of the fact that she was able to remain here, even though in failing health.
She is survived by two nephews, William A. Treaux, of Los Angeles, and Arch Trua, of Van Nuys, Calif.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Lester Ruffner Funeral Home.
Transcriber's note: Mrs. Martin's maiden name appears to be Truax on many other records and is spelled different ways in this article. Her first husband was Harlan Conner Thompson who died in 1890 and is buried at the Citizens Cemetery in Prescott, Ariz.
