Virginia B. Florez passed away in her home on Christmas morning, December 25, 2014, joining the choir of angels in heaven.
Virginia was born on October 15, 1946. She lived in Kansas City, Missouri before moving to Flagstaff, Arizona in 1989 with her loving and devoted husband, Anthony “Tony” Florez. Flagstaff was home for 25 years, and in late 2013 they made a move to Surprise, Arizona. Virginia worked for the Department of Treasury, retiring in 1994.
In retirement, she studied Spanish and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Northern Arizona University. She also was a real estate agent and worked in the field for 9 years. Among her many passions, Virginia loved art, reading, collecting Santo and Mexican folk art, and dressing up in bold, colorful clothing and jewelry drawn from her love of the Southwest culture. Virginia also loved to sing, and was a member of the church choir in Flagstaff. She often affectionately referred to the choir as her “second family.”
Virginia is preceded in death by her father, Macario Briseno.
She is survived by her husband, Tony; mother, Manuela Briseno; and her 4 siblings, Pablo Briseno, Federico Briseno, Alicia Briseno and Raquel Briseno. Virginia touched many people with her boundless energy, dignified strength and contagious enthusiasm and she will be missed by all.
A memorial service will be held on Friday January 9, 2015 at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church, 1600 E. Route 66, Flagstaff AZ. A Rosary service will be held at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Mass at 11:00 a.m.
