Harriet Iris Fish
(February 18, 1917 - January 8, 2015)
Harriet passed away January 8, 2015 at the age of 97 in Farmington, New Mexico.
She was born February 18, 1917 in Holladay, Salt Lake County, Utah and was the eighth child of Robert Bruce and Irona Louvisa Gundersen McDonald.
She moved to Flagstaff in 1935 to help her sister and brother-in-law at the Barker Village Cafe and Service Station. While working there, she met James Dwight Fish and after dating for five years, they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 19, 1940. Their first home was at Winona where her father-in-law owned the Fish sawmill. Later the sawmill was moved to the summit on North Highway 89 and they lived there for about ten years before moving into Flagstaff.
She was a dedicated home-maker. Growing up during the depression taught her to be self-reliant. She had many hobbies including crocheting, sewing, quilting, and tole painting.
Harriet was always an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions including Sunday School teacher, MIA leader, Relief Society counselor and President, ward Librarian, Lamanite Branch Primary President and Branch Relief Society President. She was also very proud of her pioneer ancestry.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-seven years, also by her parents, and eight of her nine brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her three children: Alice Fennell (Ron), Iris Dodd (Bob), David Fish (Valerie) and her adopted daughter Evelyn Fabela (John); eleven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren and her sister Alice Olsen (Lloyd).
Harriet was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She will be truly missed. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 11:00 at Citizens Cemetery. Memories and condolences can be shared with her family at www.norvelowensmortuary.com
