MARSHALL, Allen Richard


The Verde Independent, Cottonwood, Arizona Thursday, January 15, 2015 Allen Richard Marshall January 30th, 1937 to December 15th, 2014 Allen was a loving father, husband and a stranger to no one. Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Allen was predeceased by the mother of his children, Josephine Marshall in 1977. He is survived by his two children, Allen Marshall Jr. and Sandra Marshall Gebo. His two grandchildren include Elizabeth Marshall Simpson and Joseph Marshall as well as second wife Patricia Marshall and his brother Arnold Marshall of Monroe, Connecticut. Allen is of the graduating class of Grasmere Grammar School, 1952 and the graduating class of Roger Ludlow High School, 1956, both in Fairfield, Connecticut. He served in the United States Marine Corps, Fourth Battalion, Troop 276, between 1956 and 1958, Graduated from UC San Luis Obispo Farrier School in 1959 and began his long career in the outlying San Francisco Bay Area county of Contra Costa. The recipient of numerous California State Horse Shoeing Championships, he was well regarded as a talented craftsman and equestrian by his peers. A long time private pilot, he flew and taught single and twin engine light aircraft for many years from Buchanan Field in Concord, California, after receiving his private pilot's license in August of 1968. He even flew as a bush pilot in Bethel, Alaska during the summer of 1993. A heart attack in 2001 grounded him and ultimately forced him to retire as a pilot and farrier. Allen quietly lived his final years in the small Arizona town of Camp Verde, where his second wife, Patricia Marshall, lovingly cared for him up until his final moments. He will be sorely missed!
