Thomas O. Woodburn
Tom Woodburn, late of Prescott, Arizona, passed peacefully in December 2014. He was an Arizona native, born and raised in Globe, Arizona, at the Mine Rescue Station for mining operations, now a public museum in Globe.
He graduated Globe High before proudly serving in the Navy on the USS Flint in WWII. After his service, he played on the football team and graduated from the University of Arizona with a master's in education. He then began a long and fulfilling teaching and coaching career in California, first at Blythe High, then Warren High in Downey, and finally at La Serna High in Whittier. His football championships at La Serna and Blythe were career highlights, and his state championships in Blythe led to his induction into the Palo Verde County Sports Hall of Fame in 2010.
He was preceded in passing by his beloved and much-missed wife of 53 years, Dora Martin of Globe. They leave two daughters, Aminy Mociler of La Mirada, California, and Cathy Supanich of Prescott; two sons, Tom Jr. of San Diego and Ken in Los Angeles; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A lifelong avid outdoorsmen, in retirement he enjoyed his many friends, his family and grandkids, Globe and Navy reunions, his western life, hunting and fishing, and owning, riding and racing his horses at Turf Paradise. He truly will be missed by many and will be buried in Prescott next to his eternal love, his precious wife, together always.
