SPERR, JR., Charles J.

Vistoso Funeral Home, Oro Valley, Arizona Charles J. Sperr, Jr. January 22, 1926 - January 12, 2015 A tribute from Douglas Sperr: My father was both a mechanical engineer and an electrical engineer. He was an inventor with somewhere between 10 and 20 patents in his name. A 32 Degree Freemason of the York Rite. A photographer, a tinkerer and a train lover. A fixer of cars, electronic devices, houses, swimming pools and pretty much anything with a motor. He was an audiophile, a lover of fine martinis and an enjoyer of classical music. He built his first house from a prefab kit that he saw in LIFE Magazine. He was strong as hell and was almost always busy doing something physical or making something interesting. When he was five he had scarlet fever and it left him without the hearing in his right ear. He wanted to fight in WWII but he got caught trying to fake the hearing test. He had four kids, worked hard and enjoyed hanging out in the kitchen with my mom keeping her company while she made dinner. He worked on projects all over the world from Germany to Brazil and he even got to work on a space project for NASA. He was a guy of the 60's in a white polyester short sleeve shirt and skinny black tie coming home from work. For some reason, that’s how I remember him the most. Charles Sperr, devoted father, grandfather and friend was born January 22, 1926 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Charles and Marie Sperr. Charles lived a wonderful life filled with love and joy and passed away peacefully on January 12, 2015 at his home in Oro Valley, Arizona with his twin daughters by his side. He was preceded in death by his soul mate and loving wife of 62 years, Jean (click name to view Jean's web page). Charles' love will live on in the hearts of his children, Jane, Douglas, Lynne and Carol and his grandchildren, Danae, Ashley, Nathan, Christian and David. A graveside memorial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday February 28, 2015 at East Lawn Palms Cemetery. At this time Charles' cremated remains will be co-mingled with Jean's and stored in a niche beneath a plaque that says: "We had a good time".
