Catherine D. Lamb, age 88, died Feb. 4, 2005, in Prescott Valley. She was born May 30, 1916, in Clyde Bank, Scotland, near Glasgow.
Kay immigrated to Canada by ship, landing in Halifax, Nova Scotia, near Toronto, Montreal, and settled in La Chine. Kay liked skiing and postcards; she disliked cats.
Kay's mother died when she was 10. Her father, John, was away much of the time doing harvest work in western Canada; therefore, Kay lived with her aunts. John returned to Scotland, where he died when Kay was a young adult. Kay was trained as a child nurse (nanny) and entered the United States, working and traveling with the families she worked for. Kay also worked as a waitress at resorts when she could, moving and traveling frequently.
In the 1950s she accepted a job at Jokake Inn in Scottsdale. There she met Theone Lamb, who was a wrangler at the resort. He owned, trained and raced horses. Theone owned the A-Bar Ranch in Cherry, Ariz. Kay married Theone in 1962 and together they ran the A-Bar Ranch until 1971, when they sold it and retired. They kept a few acres of the ranch and built a new home. They enjoyed gardening, landscaping, and bought an RV and traveled around from Mexico to Alaska and also enjoyed a trip to Hawaii. They joined Thousand Trails Campground Club and spent winters in Southern California, where they made many great friends.
In 1996, they bought a home in Prescott Canyon Estates and had wonderful times with their new friends and neighbors.
Theone passed away in 1999 and Kay's health declined quickly. She remained independent and mentally sharp, continuing to manage her own affairs up to the day of her passing.
Kay is survived by her six stepchildren and 24 grandchildren.
Services to honor Kay were held at Sunrise Funeral Home in Prescott Valley.
