John K. Andersen, 84, of Warren, Pa., died Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, at St. Vincent Health Center of Erie, Pa. He was born July 13, 1930, in Warren, Pa., the son of the late Leonhart C. and the late Doris M. Snelding Andersen.
John served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He attended Penn State University, where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in zoology and entomology and also obtained a master’s of science in zoology. While at Penn State, he was a recognized member of the Phi Sigma Honor’s Society.
John had the privilege of working in many parks and mountains in the West, including Yellowstone and the White Mountains while working as a fishery management biologist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, retiring in 1989.
He is survived by his wife, Wendy E. Andersen, (they married Dec. 12, 1953, in England); four daughters, Avis Andersen Valentine and husband Ron Farnam of Warren, Pa., Lesley Andersen (Scott) Robeson of Lander, Wyo., Jennifer Andersen (Jeff) Head of St. Michael, Minn., and Valerie Andersen (Tom) Rea of Bemus Point, N.Y.; two sons, Robin (Cindy) Andersen of Russell, Pa., and Brock Andersen of Warren, Pa.; sister Emilie (Calvin) Rossman of Warren, Pa.; his identical twin brother, Ronald M. (Bodil) Andersen of Jupiter, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a sister, Lynne Patsy Fisher, and nephew Jody Rossman.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
