Effie Dahkoshay
(August 26, 1960 - January 13, 2015)
Our beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother, Effie Hawkins Dahkoshay went home with the lord on Tuesday, January 13th, 2015 surrounded by her loved ones in Mesa, Arizona.
She was born to Clarence and Florence Hawkins on April 26th, 1940 in East Fork, Arizona. On August 26th, 1960, she married Manley Dahkoshay in Holbrook, Arizona.
Effie was a homemaker for a number of years before she started working as a teacher’s assistant for the Whiteriver School District #20. She worked with students in the special Education department for 24 years up until she retired in May, 1997.
Our mom had many hobbies over the years making quilts, camp dresses, aprons, shawls, ect. She enjoyed making different items for her loved ones and it made her feel so good to see the delight on their faces when she would present them with these handmade items.
Effie is survived by her husband of 52 years Manley Dahkoshay; Daughter, Ida Dahkoshay; Sons, Manuel (Vanta) and Darrell (Gail) of Phoenix, Az; Brothers, Alvino Hawkins Sr., Larrison Hawkins and William Hawkins Sr.; Sister, Judy Quintero; Aunt, Evelyn Barbosa; plus 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 8 nieces, 14 nephews, 3 goddaughters and numerous cousins, family and friends.
A one night wake will begin at her residence in Rainbow City on Friday, January 23rd at 10:00am.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday January 24th at 10:00am at the East Fork Lutheran Church.
Interment will be at Dove Cemetery in East Fork. Our mother was so strong in her faith that strength is what helped her though the times she had to deal with her illness.
She prayed and prayed right up to the end, so we know she is home with the Lord. Even though our hearts are broken, we can take comfort in knowing she is not suffering and she’s happy at peace, at home, in heaven.
