Doris J. Sanders, 87, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 14. 2015, at home surrounded by love. She was born in Leroy, Indiana, the only child of Grant and Ruby Daniels.
Doris grew up in Boone Grove on the farm where her mother was born. After graduating from Boone Grove High School at the top of her class, she spent a year studying at Purdue University. Through mutual friends, Doris met the love of her life, Gene Sanders, while he was attending Valparaiso University. Unfortunately, the timing was not right for them, and it wasn't until many years later that they reconnected, married and raised their family.
Retirement brought Doris and Gene to Arizona, where they built a home in Prescott. Doris was an active member and participant in many community organizations. She especially enjoyed her involvement with the Mountain Artists Guild in Prescott. She was passionate about her painting and she never tired of finding new arts and craft projects to occupy her time.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband Eugene (Gene) W. Sanders.
She is survived by daughter Janice Johnson (Brian); son Darrell Sanders (Virginia); and grandchildren Olivia and Grant Sanders. She was a wonderfully loving wife, mother and grandmother and loyal friend to many.
A private celebration of her life is planned for a later date. Donations in her name may be made to Hospice of the Valley, www.hov.org.
