Committal service will be 3 p.m. Feb. 6, 2015, at the Prescott National Cemetery. Memorial is 11 a.m. Feb. 7, 2015, at the Prescott United Methodist Church. Arrangements by Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home. ~~~~~~~~~ The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Sunday, February 01, 2015 John Stephenson Johnson, 90, of Prescott, Arizona, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015, in Cottonwood, Arizona. He was born April 30, 1924, in Bridgeton, New Jersey, the son of David H. and Ida M. Johnson. John grew up in Bridgeton and graduated Bridgeton High School in 1942. He graduated from the University of Louisville in 1945. He also served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during World War II. John, along with his father, owned the Johnson Funeral Home in Bridgeton until 1960, when he relocated to Detroit and joined Owens Corning. He eventually returned to the funeral home business in Hemet, California. He then retired in Prescott. John was an active member of several organizations including the Sons of the American Revolution, the Elks Lodge, the American Legion and the Yavapai County Republican Committee Chair. He was a longtime member of Prescott United Methodist Church. John loved nothing more than to spend time with his family, especially his 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, highlighted by annual summer reunions around the pool at the Pointe in Phoenix for the past 25 years. He kept sharp by avidly reading and doing crossword puzzles, and could remember the names of any friends and family regardless of how long ago he knew them. He was happily married for 68 years to Frances, and his family was the most important thing in the world to him. John is preceded in passing by daughter Kathryn, and is survived by wife Frances (Boughton); daughters Carolyn (Vic) Arcos and Peggy (Rich) Robison; sons David and John (Cindy) Johnson; grandchildren Jody (Pamela) Roberson, Lisa, Lori (Melanie), David, and John Arcos, Matthew (Megan), Michael, and Mark Mazzola, Joseph, Megan, and Rebecca DeKonty; Brian and Alyssa Johnson; Chris, Tyler, Kyle, and Johnny Johnson; great-grandchildren Jonathan, Mallory and Matthew Roberson, Kael, Ivie, and Myles Mazzola; Keaton Arcos; and many friends. A private committal service will be 3 p.m. Feb. 6, 2015, at the Prescott National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015 at the Prescott United Methodist Church.
