Arizona Silver Belt, Globe, Arizona, Wednesday, January 21, 2015 Elvira M. Massey, 73 Vera Massey, 73, passed away on Jan. 6, 2015, surrounded by her immediate family. She was born on April 28, 1941 in Sonora, Ariz. to Juan and Maria Flores. When she was a small child, the family moved to Miami, Ariz. After graduation from Miami High School, she worked as a school secretary and in the medical field for several doctors. She had the opportunity to travel to England, France, Germany, Portugal, Spain and Israel. Vera was a lifetime member of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, in Miami, where she participated in several Ministries, including lector and Eucharistic Minister. She also enjoyed working the elections and on numerous crafts. Vera was the caretaker for our beloved Mother (Maria) and Step-father (Pascual De La Paz). Vera is survived by her sister, Mary Ann Niewald of Mesa; brother, John (Jo) Flores of Mesa; niece, Marcie (Mike) Fleming of Pennsylvania and nephew, Eric Fasoulis of Mesa, who was Vera’s caretaker in her final months of life. A funeral Mass was held at All Saints Roman Catholic Church, 1534 N. Recker Road, Mesa, on Friday, Jan. 23, 2015 at 10 a.m., followed by lunch. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 1562 E. Baseline Road, Mesa, on Monday, Jan. 26, at 10 a.m. Vera’s passion in life was to adopt and care for cats. Thus, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be left at the luncheon or sent to John Flores and products will be purchased for use at the Gila County animal control Center.
