RODRIGUEZ, Miguel Solorzano (Shorty)

Vining Funeral Home, Safford, Arizona Miguel S. Rodriguez March 4, 1934 - January 16, 2015 Miguel Solorzano Rodriguez was born the son of Fermin and Nicolasa Rodriguez in Aguas Calientes, Mexico on March 4, 1934. He lived most of his life in the Gila Valley working on various farms as a farm laborer. Shorty worked for Jim Daley, Casey Garcia and the Colvin Farms in Eden. He loved to be in the out-of-doors working, enjoying the fresh air and helping to cultivate the land and watching the crops flourish. Shorty felt a deep satisfaction and pride in the work he did and felt like he was contributing a small part to the success of the farm. Shorty appreciated raising small animals such as rabbits, chickens and occasionally a calf or hog to share with his friends. He provided the meat for many a fiesta like a quinceanera, baptism or wedding. Shorty was short in stature but, he had a big compassionate heart and loved to be asked to be part of those special occasions. He was asked to be a Godfather for many young ones who lovingly called him “Grandpa”. Having no children of his own, Shorty treasured this and loved to hear them call him Grandpa. His face would light up when he saw them coming to pay him a visit. These grandchildren brought much joy into his life! Shorty always had a kind word for and about everyone. He thought of everyone as his “amigo”. Shorty did not hold grudges and was forgiving of any real or imagined slight. He chose to see only the good in people. Shorty was the type of person who would literally give anyone the shirt off of his back and try to help them in any way he could regardless of the cost to him. His greeting was generally a great big smile and a firm handshake. Shorty loved to receive company and sit and visit for a while. He had an immense love for animals, his family, friends and his work. Miguel entered into eternal rest, Friday morning, January 16, 2015, at the Mount Graham Regional Medical Center. Awaiting his arrival was his beloved wife, Yolanda. Miguel is survived by: his many friends and grandchildren who will miss him dearly. Miguel was predeceased by: his wife, Yolanda, in 2011; his mother, Nicolasa; and his father, Fermin.
