SHAFFER, Velata Doise


Arizona Silver Belt, Globe, Arizona, Tuesday, January 27, 2015 Velata Doise Shaffer, 75 A long time Miami resident, Velata Doise Shaffer, passed away peacefully Jan. 18, 2015 in Apache Junction, Ariz. She was born April 26, 1939 in Eloy, Ariz. Velata loved spending time with her family. She spent many hours researching her family’s genealogy. She enjoyed photography, camping, hunting, and fishing with her loved ones. She was a wonderful homemaker who was generous to all. She always opened her home to those in need. She had a hand in raising many of the community’s children. She loved all of God’s creatures, big and small. She is preceded in death by one month by her husband of 49 years, Merle Shaffer; her mother, Murle Weaver; father, Ralph Weaver Sr.; and father, John Gus Eddings; whom she lost as a teenager. She is also preceded by her beloved sister, Johnnie Persinger. Velata is survived by her brothers, John Glen Eddings (Irene) and Ralph Weaver Jr. (Judy); her children, Djana Shaffer Langley (Travis) of Apache Junction, Ariz., Levi Shaffer (Amanda) of Miami, Ariz. and Tammi Means (Russ) of Grand Junction, Colo.; her grandchildren, Alxzandrea, Kristofer, Chayla, Erika, Thomas, Isaac, and Caleb; and her great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Bradley, and Serenity. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Friday, Jan. 30, 2015. Viewing and visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. with services to follow immediately after. Interment will be in the Globe Cemetery. Assisting the family is Miles Mortuary of Globe.
