Anita J. Wells
The kind, gentle, loving soul and spirit of our precious loved one Anita Jane Wells, 75, departed from this world and entered into the eternal peace of heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, at her Prescott home.
Anita was born on April 1, 1939, in Phoenix, Arizona, to Alva Burton and Sylvia Edith Byrd. Anita attended Phoenix Union High School and was a renowned fast-pitch softball pitcher from 1948 to 1957 and played with the PBSW Ramblers, one of the finest women's softball teams ever produced in Arizona. Anita then married Jerry L.E. Wells, who was a world-renowned fast-pitch softball pitcher as well. Jerry and Anita shared a love of softball throughout their lives and were blessed to have shared the love of the game with their children and grandchildren as well as people all over the world.
Anita acquired her teaching certificate from ASU in 1987, and has taught school in the Prescott Unified School District up to the present, most recently as a semi-retired substitute teacher at Mile High Middle School. In 1991, Anita also achieved her master's degree and her certificate of principalship from ASU as well.
In addition to Anita's many accomplishments, she was blessed with the privilege of fulfilling her lifelong dream of entertaining as a singer, both individually and with the local band named Brush Arbor. She traveled statewide, sharing her love of music with people everywhere.
Anita Wells was a great leader in so many ways and cherished by all who knew her. Her presence will be greatly missed by all. In fact, the sun will never shine as bright ever again for many of us.
Anita would want us all to remember how she lived and honor her by living life to the fullest and loving each other well. God bless you, Anita Wells (Mom). Thank you for your legacy.
Anita is survived by her four children, Lei Ann Stickney (Dennis), Connie Brenton (Dan), Jerry L.C. Wells and Jim Wells (Wendy); grandchildren Mike Wells (Kelly), Casey Wells (Krystal), Brent Larsen, Misty Stickney, Addison, Hannah and Cooper Wells and Chanel Williams; great-grandchildren Michael, Matthew and Mitchell Wells, and Christian Williams; and great-great-grandchildren Hunter and Tate Wells, in addition to her sisters, Sylvia Needham (Carl) and Ginger Cook (Billy Don), and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Anita's life is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015, at Ruth Street Theatre at Prescott High School, 1050 Ruth St., Prescott, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship fund in Anita Wells' name for Prescott Unified School District students has been established. Checks can be made payable to Prescott Education Foundation, 146 S. Granite St. Prescott, AZ 86303.
