BAIN, SR., Doyle Durwood


Norvel Owens Mortuary, Flagstaff, Arizona Doyle D Bain (February 4, 1930 - January 30, 2015) Doyle Durwood Bain, Sr. went to be with his beloved Lord Jesus on January 30, 2015. He was born in St. Luke’s Hospital, Phoenix, Arizona on February 4th, 1930 to Mary Lea and Bill Bain. Doyle spent his childhood in Phoenix and Roosevelt. He attended Phoenix Union High School where he met the love of his life and then future wife, Roni. He married Roni on September 2, 1950 shortly before he joined the Arizona Air National Guard. Doyle served as a Staff Sargent in the USAF at Luke Air Force Base during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Northern Arizona University in 1963 with a degree in Business Administration. After his discharge from the Air Force, Doyle moved to Northern Arizona where he worked at the then Navajo Army Depot and began his career with the U.S. Forest Service at the Nob Hill Warehouse in Flagstaff. Doyle worked as an Administrative Officer in the Business Management area on the Coconino, Kaibab, Gila, Lincoln and Cibola National Forests in Arizona and New Mexico. He retired from the Forest Service in 1990. Doyle was a long-time resident of Flagstaff, spending over 49 years in Flagstaff and Williams. Wherever he lived, his priority was to serve God through his church. He was a life-long teacher of adult Bible study and continued to teach a weekly Bible Study at The Peaks Assisted Living Community until his death. Doyle also worked as a Deacon, Treasurer and volunteer administrator at both First Southern Baptist Church and Greenlaw Baptist Church in Flagstaff. Everywhere he went, Doyle’s playful teasing, quick wit and easy laugh had a way of making people feel happier and cared for. Doyle was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Throughout his life he had an active part in the lives of all of his children and grandchildren. He delighted in teaching them about God’s wonders found in the forests and canyons of Arizona and New Mexico and was known to give “pop quizzes” regarding trees and wildlife. Doyle was preceded in death by his wife, Roni, of 63 years. He is survived his three children, Doyle Bain Jr. (Janice) of Glendale, Arizona, Loretta Bain Sherman of Flagstaff, Arizona, Evelyn Bain of Amarillo, Texas, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and his sisters Barbara Jacobs(John) and Doris Anderson(Bruce). Services for Doyle will be held Thursday, February 5, at 2PM at Norvel Owens Mortuary Chapel. Interment will follow at Community Cemetery, Flagstaff.
