The Arizona Republic December 16, 1964 Memorial services for Mr. and Mrs. Dennis F. Hoff, who were presumed lost at sea Dec. 23, 1964, near Pago Pago, Samoa, were conducted in Tolleson Christian Church, 93rd Avenue and Monroe. Dr. Wyman W. McReynolds and the Revs. John Walker and Don Charles officiated. Mr. and Mrs. Hoff were married at the Tolleson Church in June and left home in Tempe in September to teach at the American Samoa High School at Pago Pago. They were sailing an outrigger canoe when a storm struck the area. Mr. Hoff, 28, a native of Indiana, came to the Valley seven years ago. He graduated from Arizona State University in 1961 and taught in Phoenix three years. He was an Army veteran. Mrs. Patricia Van Zanten Hoff, 22, was graduated from ASU in the spring of 1964. She was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, and moved to Tolleson with her parents in 1946. His survivors include his parents, the Rev. and Mrs. Carl Hoff of Lathrop, Missouri, former pastor of the Tolleson Christian Church; a brother, Carl, of San Pedro, CA; and a sister, Mrs. Robert Youtsey of Kansas City, Missouri. Her survivors include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Van Zanten; a sister, Sandra, all of Tempe; and a brother, Lt. William C., Jr., in the Marines at Camp Pendleton, California.
