Dr. William (Bill) Ellis Hall of Prescott, Arizona, died on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, following a short illness while in the care of hospice at Marley House. He was 83 years old.
Bill was born in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Ellis Rusk Hall and Mary Ethel (Brockman) Hall. At an early age, his family moved to Ft. Madison, Iowa, where his father owned and operated Hall Funeral Home for many years. Bill attended school there and graduated from Ft. Madison High School in 1949. He went on to higher education at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois, and then to the University of Iowa Medical School, receiving his M.D. degree in 1957.
While in medical school in Iowa City, Iowa, Bill met and married Allene Estelle. They have been married nearly 60 years.
He furthered his education in surgery for one year at Veterans Hospital in Iowa City.
He was drafted into the United States Army in 1959. After basic training, he received the rank of captain and was sent to Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, to serve at Munson Army Hospital. After his tour of duty there, Bill returned to Iowa to finish three more years of his residency in surgery at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. At completion of this training, he accepted a position as a general surgeon at Rohlf Memorial Clinic in Waverly, Iowa, for the next 29 years, retiring in 1993.
Bill was a charter member of Kiwanis Club and served as first president. Later he became president of the local chapter of the American Red Cross. He and his family attended Grace Baptist Church. In his leisure time, he enjoyed flower gardening, watching sports and vacationing with his family. In November of 1994, Bill and Allene moved to Prescott, Arizona, where they met new friends and enjoyed fellowship at First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife; his daughter Karen (Rick) Snyder; his sons David and Thomas (Cari); grandchildren Naomi (Glen) Cadwallader and Josiah (Katy) Snyder; and great-grandson Elias Cadwallader.
His parents preceded Bill in death.
Memorials may be sent to Master's Closet at First Baptist Church in Prescott.
