Joyce Elizabeth Black, 85, a resident of Prescott since 1994, went home to be with her beloved Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Feb. 9, 2015.
Born May 21, 1929, in Ontario, California, to Gale and Ed Wanamaker.
She attended UCLA where she met her husband, Bill. They married June 1950. She then traveled the world as an army wife, raising five children along the way. Later in life, she used her many creative talents, obtaining a BA at ASU in Radio/TV, gaining skills in stage management and theater production. She earned an MS in Speech Therapy at NAU. She was a published author, drawing from experiences while living throughout the US and internationally in Germany, Taiwan, England and Kenya. She was a gifted artist and award-winning carver as well.
Joyce was an active and beloved member of the First Church of the Nazarene serving as Sunday School Superintendent, coordinator of many Missions projects, and stage manager of the annual Christmas pageant, even performing with her husband in popular comedy skits.
A tireless volunteer worker she donated her time to numerous Prescott charities, which included leading numerous food and clothing donation drives. She was also a charter member of the Friends of the Nazarene.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. William C. Black; Lt. Gen (ret) Scott C. Black, CEO (Kim); the Rev. Christy Via, U.S. Diplomat (Michael); Melody Black, teacher; Shelly Cardone, RN (Jerry); Holly Isaacs; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 14, 2015, at the First Church of the Nazarene, in Prescott, Arizona.
Arrangements by the Hampton Funeral Home, 928-773-0353. Memorial donations can be made to the Coalition for Compassion and Justice in Prescott.
Joyce's family thanks all who were a part of her remarkable life, a devoted servant of God and prayer warrior who touched countless lives with her generous spirit.
