WARD, Dorothy Marlene

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 02/17/2015 Dorothy Marlene Ward entered into eternal rest Dec. 10, 2014, after a brief and sudden illness. She had been a resident of Clay Springs for the last 29 years. She was born in Vincennes, Ind., the fourth of 13 children to parents Orville and Oma Horrall. The family moved to Phoenix where Dorothy finished her senior year at Phoenix Union High School. Shortly after graduation, she began working for Mountain Bell in Phoenix. In December 1953, at a chance meeting at Heart to Heart Hour Chapel in Phoenix, she met James Howard Ward while Jim was home on leave from the Air Force. They were married the following year on June 28, 1954. Dorothy was a stay-at-home mom for a few years and eventually returned back to work with Mountain Bell, at first in Phoenix and later in Denver, Colo. After retiring in 1986, she and Jim moved to Clay Springs where Dorothy became involved in taking and teaching ceramics classes, taking painting classes, volunteering on the Navajo County Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteer Unit in Clay Springs and working on the local elections board, Clay Springs Cemetery Board. She helped to establish the Clay Springs Library and wrote, published and distributed the Clay Springs/Pinedale Sunshine Report. She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Hanan from Colorado; and son Keith Ward of California; grandsons John, Caleb and Nate; granddaughters Sarah, Heather and Gail; and two great-grandsons, Corban and Aiden. A memorial service in her honor will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at the LDS Church in Pinedale. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Clay Springs Historical Society or the Clay Springs/Pinedale Fire Department.
