VASQUEZ, Joe Edward (Eddy)


Arizona Silver Belt, Globe, Arizona, Tuesday, February 17, 2015 Eddy J. Vasquez, age 77, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015 peacefully at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born Sept. 30, 1937 in Globe, Ariz., one of four children born to Nacho and Vera Vasquez. He was a member of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, The Termites Boys Club, Knights of Columbus and The American Legion. He had many wonderful memories from his childhood that he often spoke of, including the times he spent with the Termites. He married his loving wife Betty on July 26, 1957. Eddy worked as a miner at Inspiration Copper Mine until he retired. In the late 1950s his Uncle Gilbert Ruiz started teaching him to play the guitar and that was all it took to get him hooked on music. He served in the Armed Forces from 1960 through 1962. When he returned home he continued his love for music and began to play in a band called “The Corvettes.” After many years with the Corvettes, he formed another band “Eddy and the Cruisers.” He provided entertainment for local bars and many functions throughout Arizona. He also played for many fundraisers in which he donated his time. He continued to play music until his last days. Eddy always had a smile on his face and gum or candy for the kids. He will greatly be missed by his family and friends. Eddy leaves behind in loving memory his wife of 58 years, Betty Vasquez; his daughter, Liz Rivera and son-in-law Bebe Rivera; his son, Sonny Brewer, and grandson Kaleb Brewer; his mother, Vera Vasquez; brother, David Vasquez and his wife Julie; and his sister, Gloria Hernandez. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Eddy was preceded in death by his father, Nacho Vasquez; brother, Fred Vasquez; and niece, Maria Vasquez. Visitation was held at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015 at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 914 Sullivan St., Miami, AZ 85539. Rosary followed at 9:30 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Interment at Globe City Cemetery, 1700 Hackney Ave., Globe, AZ 85501. Family assisted by Bulman Miles Funeral Home Services.
