Helen Skousen Slaughter, 97, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, at the Beehive Home in Eagar. She was born June 20, 1917, in Alpine, the daughter of Erastus and Nickoline Rierson Skousen.
Helen worked as a school teacher in Fredonia, Alpine and Nutrioso. She was also the postmaster in Alpine, retiring in 1984.
She loved the outdoors and loved to fish and ride horses. She could find deer and elk with the best of them. Helen was an avid reader and loved watching sports, especially BYU and loved working in the Mesa Temple.
She is survived by her sons, W. Arthur (Paula) Slaughter, Deming of N.M.; Gary A. (Marilyn) Slaughter of Eagar; W. Leland (Valerie) Slaughter of Provo, Utah; 12 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Austin H. Slaughter, daughter Janice C. Harper, grandson Scott Slaughter and six siblings.
Funeral services were held Feb. 21, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Eagar Stake Center. Interment followed services at the Alpine Cemetery.
