W.E. Barnes Dies At 'Frisco
W.E. Barnes, traveling passenger agent for the Southern Pacific, with headquarters at Tucson, died Sunday night at a hospital at San Francisco after a prolonged illness. The remains were brought to Tucson, where the funeral took place this week.
Mr. Barnes, who was one of the best known railroad men in the southwest, had been ill since May 1 with acute heart and kidney trouble, with which he had been afflicted for the past three years. Three weeks ago he was reported as very seriously ill at San Francisco, but seemed to be recovering, and himself wrote a week ago from San Francisco that he would soon return to Arizona. Mr. Barnes, who was a native of England, had had a varied career, having served in the British army in Egypt, and having traveled extensively in Asia and Africa, serving as correspondent for English papers. He was for a time general agent for the Southern Pacific at the City of Mexico. He was 47 years of age.
