Ted Leighton
July 17, 1938 - February 19,2015
Ted passed away peacefully after a long illness.
Longtime Northern Arizona Resident. Career teacher in the Flagstaff Unified School District at East Flag Junior High School and Sechrist Elementary School. His dedication and contribution to many children in Flagstaff was remarkable.
Ted was a cowboy, river boatman, skier, traveler, outdoorsman, and generally game for most adventures. Glenn’s recent favorite memory of Ted was with his feet in the ocean of Western Australia, and with a giant smile, he said “i’m standing in the Indian Ocean!” Jill’s was him grabbing her hand and saying “I love you Honey, thank you for all you do!” And what is mentioned by all is the twinkle in his blue eyes and genuine smile.
Glenn was a participant in many adventures with his dad, to include what can be termed mostly as rowdy, from chasing cattle in the Verde Valley, running Colorado River at 100,000 CFS, and loading stranded 747 with luggage in Barcelona. Ted provided his children with a full, active, loving childhood; he left a retreat in Colorado for his grandchildren to always have a place to go and to remember him.
Our extended and chosen family, Greg, Jill and Glenn will always have great stories to tell about Ted Leighton. Also there was no promise to not add, that guy could cuss with the best of them
He is survived by his son Glenn Leighton (Angela) and son’s Alex, Aaron, and Jack: his daughter Jill Morse (Bill) and daughter Samantha, and son’s Zachary and Maxwell.
A memorial celebration will be held Saturday, February 28th from 1:00-4:00pm at the Flagstaff Elks Club.
