Kathleen Ann Speck, 67, of Prescott passed away peacefully on Jan. 17, 2015, at Kindred Hospital in Peoria, Arizona, from complications of diabetes. Kathy was born in Indianapolis, Indiana.
She graduated Cum Laude from Pasadena College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and later received her Master of Arts in Education degree from Northern Arizona University. Kathy was a teacher at Washington Traditional School, having taught second grade for 31 years and first grade for three years. Kathy was thought of very highly by students and fellow teachers. She was listed in "Who's Who Among America's Best Teachers" in 1992. Through the years, many former students invited her to their high school and college graduations and wedding ceremonies, a special honor that meant the world to her.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents Dale H. Speck Sr. and Laura Mae Speck; brothers Harold Joseph Speck and Dale H. Speck Jr.; and sister Linda S. Ansick.
She is survived by her sisters Evelyn Wheat of Lake Havasu City and Debbie Troutman of Phoenix; two nieces; four nephews; six great nieces; one great nephew; and two great-great nieces.
As Kathy's biggest passion was reading, contributions may be made in her name to Prescott Unified School District, Library Fund, 146 S. Granite St., Prescott, AZ 86303, to ensure her love of learning continues on in the lives of children.
