Apolonia 'Pola' Mercedes Gonzales, age 86, of Prescott Valley, Arizona, went to be with our Lord on March 4, 2015. Pola was born in San Diego, California on July 17, 1928, to Maria Elena and Julio Aguilera.
After moving from San Diego, her family lived in East Los Angeles where she met her husband of 35 years, Gilbert Gonzales. They had three children, Richard A. Gonzales, Paul R. Gonzales and Maria Elena 'Malena' Gonzales Peraza.
Pola's many hobbies included volunteering with boy scouts, flower arranging, cake decorating, knitting and gardening. Her biggest passion she loved to do was go bowling.
She retired in 1991 from Sears Roebuck in Los Angeles, where she enjoyed her job as a Merchandising Supervisor.
Pola and Gilbert moved to Prescott Valley where mom loved the Arizona sunsets, the scenic mountains and open spaces. Pola shared her talents at St. Germaine Church by making rosaries and spending her time as an hourly coordinator in the adoration chapel. Her most memorable times were spent with family.
Pola is preceded in death by her parents Maria Elena and Julio Aguilera and her brother Augustine Aguilera.
She is survived by her sisters, Aurelia (Lillian) Garcia of Antioch, California, Marie Antoinette Contreras of Whittier, California; her children Richard A. Gonzales of Hacienda Heights, California, Paul R. Gonzales of Tucson, Arizona, Malena Peraza of Prescott Valley, Arizona; grandchildren, Derrick A. Gonzales, Robert A. Gonzales, Malia Peraza, Joel Peraza; and great grandson Malique Gonzales.
A viewing will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Sunrise Funeral Home in Prescott Valley. A Celebration of Pola's Life will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2015, at St. Germaine Church in Prescott Valley, Arizona.
