The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 03/13/2015 Raymond E. Jackson America has lost another World War II warrior. Raymond E. Jackson died Saturday, March 7, in his home in Oro Valley. He was born Oct. 25, 1922, in Ada, Okla. He was one of 10 children born to Jesse and Samantha Jackson. Raymond served in the U.S. Army and Cavalry during WWII. He took part in the Normandy Invasion and was wounded Aug. 31, 944. He was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a business owner and ran an automotive and truck repair garage in Tucson for 20 years, called Jackson Automotive. He was a life member of the VFW, DAV and Elks Club. He was a scout leader for the Boy Scouts (Troop 90) for 25 years. He was also a member of the Santa Catalina Catholic Church in Catalina. Raymond loved to hunt, fish and vacation throughout Arizona and Mexico, but his most cherished times were his family. Raymond touched many lives throughout Arizona, Texas and Mexico. All who had the privilege of meeting him would call him friend. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Jenny Rodriguez Jackson; three children, Joan T. (Dan) Ireland, Deborah C. (Michael) Demlong and David W. (Tricia) Jackson; five grandsons, Dan Ireland, Zachary and Brett Zimmerman and Christopher and John Jackson; three great-grandchildren, Adrian and Josephine Zimmerman and Adalynne Jackson; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Raymond E. Jackson Jr., and all his siblings. Services shall be full military honors at Holy Hope in Tucson. His pall bearers shall be his grandsons and grandnephew, Jason Jackson.
