Leonard Thomas Fielding, MD (Colonel, United States Army, Retired) of Prescott Arizona returned to the Lord March 10, 2015 after a brief illness. Leonard was born on June 7, 1936 in Mankato, Minnesota.
He attended Mankato High School and the University of Minnesota. Leonard graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1962, and practiced as a psychiatrist first in Robbinsdale, and then in the Brainerd Lakes Area of Minnesota for most of his career.
He was a champion for the mentally ill and developmentally disabled, serving as Medical Director at Brainerd State Hospital and for the State of Minnesota. He was one of the founding staff for the Grace Unit at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd and spent many of his retirement years continuing to provide psychiatric services for patients in Minnesota, Arizona and New Zealand. Leonard was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved to cook, read and travel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Matthew and Lois Rew Fielding.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lois Claire Fielding; children Kirsten (Al) Ness, Cameron (Bryan) DeHoog, Thomas Fielding, Brendan Fielding and Ariana (Kevin) Thomas; 10 grandchildren, Kristopher, Nicholas, Rachel, Alexandra, Kendra, Justin, Emma, Brendan, Halle and Jack; and one great grandson Teegan.
Services are at 10 a.m., March 20, 2015 at American Lutheran Church, 1085 Scott Drive, Prescott, AZ 86301 (928-445-4348).
