“Rainy” Hetrick
Posted: Tuesday, Mar 17th, 2015
“Rainy” Hetrick was born Edna Lorraine Hines on June 15, 1941 in Miami, Ariz. to Lloyd and Betty Hines. Rainy was the second of their four children. She passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, March 9, surrounded by her family.
Rainy will be remembered for her warm smile and kind heart.
Rainy treasured her family above all else and spent much of her life serving and spending time with them. There were few things Rainy enjoyed as much as holding babies and spending time with her family. She loved to quilt/sew and paint china-ware; she made many friends in various classes and groups she was a part of. In addition, she loved simple things like reading a good book, listening to beautiful music and enjoying a favorite movie, like Star Wars.
She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in her 40s and felt a great love for her faith and her fellow church members. She had many friends from church and particularly enjoyed the Monday Family Home Evening with the “old singles,” a group of older single church members who had dinner and a spiritual discussion almost every week.
Rainy lived in Arizona her whole life except for a brief time in high school when she went to visit family in Vancouver, Wash. and stayed there for a year. In addition to Globe, she lived in Morenci, San Manuel, Page, Show Low, Winkelman and Young. She worked a variety of jobs throughout her life; from driving a haul truck in the copper mines, to serving as a teacher’s aide, to working as a CNA. She loved working with people.
One of her greatest jobs was being a caregiver to her parents near the end of their lives. She spent several years helping them and caring for them so they could remain at home. Her mother called Rainy “my angel” for her service and love.
Rainy was preceded in death by her father, Lloyd Hines; mother, Betty Smith Hines; sister, Sandy Hines; brother, George Hines; daughter, Kristie Hetrick; and grandson, Joshua Kerrigan.
She is survived by her daughter, Abbie Kerrigan of Thatcher; sons, Marty (Saphrona) Hetrick of Springerville, Darby (Sommer) Hetrick of Mesa, and Nolan Hetrick of Flagstaff; her little brother, Johnny (Karen) Hines of Denver, NC; her granddaughters, Denea, Ashley, Kaileigh, Mailee, Reegan and Shelby; her grandsons, Jeremy, Derrick, Jacob, Dalton and Casen; great grandsons, Reilly, Wyatt, Chase and Shawn; and great granddaughters, Jaina, Riley, Chloe, Katy and Charlee. Also, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
