Gerald Sherman, a resident of Thatcher, peacefully entered into eternal life Thursday morning, March 12, 2015, at the Tucson Medical Center following a brief illness. He was 68.
Gerald was born Nov. 26, 1946, to Joe and Ethel Sherman in Safford. He was a devoted husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa.
Gerald coached T-ball, peewee league, Little League and the Babe Ruth leagues in Thatcher and church softball for the Thatcher 4th Ward. He enjoyed working with horses and working as a horseshoeer for more than 40 years. He worked full-time for 41 years with the El Paso Natural Gas Company, and he was an avid team roper.
Gerald leaves to mourn: his wife of 51 years, Judy Ann Lee Sherman; two sons, Gary Sherman (Sharla) and Rusty Sherman (Brenda); eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Gerald was predeceased by: his parents, Joe and Ethel Sherman; and his brother, Larry Sherman.
Funeral services for Gerald will be conducted Saturday, March 21, 2015, at 11 a.m., at the Thatcher LDS Stake Center by Bishop Wes Wright, of the Thatcher Fourth Ward.
Concluding services will follow in the Thatcher Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday evening, March 20, 2015, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., at the Vining Funeral Home, and Saturday morning, March 21, 2015, from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m., at the Thatcher Stake Center Relief Society Room.
