MITCHELL, Ella M.

(Maiden Name: Brayton)

Weekly Arizona Journal Miner, Prescott, Arizona Territory Friday, August 2, 1878, page 4, column 1 Death of Mrs. Ella Mitchell Our citizens were shocked this morning to learn that Mrs. Ella, wife of C. P. Mitchell, had passed to the 'other shore', and at a time when her days seemed to be brightest and filled with more than usual hopes. The deceased came to Arizona about two years since with her mother, brother and relations, and had continued to reside here ever since, making a host of friends. Two days since she was taken with convulsions, which continued up to yesterday afternoon, at which time they apparently ceased, but left her in a prostrate condition, and at half past one this morning the spirit had left the body and passed away from the earth. Mrs. Mitchell was pleasant in her address, cheerful in disposition, kind to all, and in her death Prescott has lost one of her best ladies. To Mr. Mitchell who is in Mohave county examining the situation and feasibility of starting a news-paper in that County, the news will fall with crushing effect. It will be a comfort to him, however, to know that she died surrounded by numerous lady friends who left nothing undone that could be done for her comfort and relief. Mr. M. was at the time of her death, we believe, in her 20th year. ------------------------ Weekly Arizona Journal Miner, Prescott, Arizona Territory Friday, August 2, 1878, page 4, column 2 The funeral of Ella Mitchell which took place yesterday, was quite generally attended by the citizens of Prescott, who followed, in sadness, the remains of the deceased, to the citizen's cemetery and there placed it in its bed of clay. The pall-bearers who were composed of the art preservative, who assembled to perform that sacred act of respect for the departed, wife of a brother member of the craft. Transcriber's note: Mrs. Mitchell, wife of Chauncey F. Mitchell, is buried in an unknown and unmarked grave at the Citizens Cemetery in Prescott, Arizona.
