Dorothy Mae Doarn, age 95, of Flagstaff, passed to her much-anticipated eternal home, Friday, March 13, 2015, to reunite with soulmate Carl, and other dear family and friends.
Dorothy was born in Dubuque, Iowa, June 5, 1919, to Lila Mae Upham Brewer and Charles Henry Brewer. She was a descendant of the first Iowa and Illinois settlers.
Dorothy, the youngest of 5 children, met her husband Carl while on vacation, attending a USO dance in Colorado Springs prior to WWII. They exchanged letters during the war and married in Dubuque, Iowa on March 30, 1946. They moved with their family to Glendale, Arizona in 1959, and then to Flagstaff in 1961, where she resided for 54 years. Dorothy was Assistant Credit Manager at Babbitt Bros. Trading Co. for 26 years.
Dorothy was a devoted Christian who loved to sew, bake, was an avid reader, and loved daily crossword puzzles, and solving Sudoku puzzles. Most of all, Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family came first, and she doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by husband Carl in 1997.
She is survived by her children Patty Goodsell (Richard) of Arivaca, Arizona, Carol Kuntzelman, and David Doarn, both of Flagstaff, grandchildren Kristina Brooks (Gary), Zachary Doarn, Amy Rhodes (Dustin), and 7 beloved great-grandchildren.
A private family service of remembrance and celebration of Dorothy's life will be held on her birthday in June. The family especially thanks Pastor Bob Norton for his daily comforting presence and sharing of scripture and hymns in the last 3 weeks of her life. Also thanked are the caring staff of Olivia White Hospice Home and Northland Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to Olivia White Hospice Home, P.O. Box 997, Flagstaff, AZ 86002.
