WORKMAN, Dennis Gilbert

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 03/24/2015 Dennis Gilbert Workman, 60, died Sunday, March 15, 2015, at his home in Eagar. He was born March 12, 1955, in Ely, Nev., the son of Farrel Van and Emma Irene Henriod Workman. Dennis worked as a police officer in Carlin, Nev., during the early ‘80s. He also worked in the mines at the Springerville Generating Station for subcontractors, Town of Eagar, Graham County (where he ran inmate crews and made a lot of lifelong friends with the inmates because he treated them well) and Springerville ADOT. When he first met Sandy 30-plus years ago, he didn’t like sports or country music. That quickly changed and he came to love sports and country music and had no choice but to become a Dallas Cowboys fan. On Dennis’ “bucket list” was a ride on the Amtrak train. His daughter Roni made that wish come true by taking him and Sandy on a train ride to Colorado just a few days before Dennis passed away. He was known for his great sense of humor and easygoing ways. One of his biggest attributes was his support and love for Sandy. They were always together; they were a team. Their son DK said, “You and mom are best friends. You do everything together ... What’s Bonnie without Clyde?” Dennis is survived by his wife, Sandy Slade Workman of Eagar; daughter Roni (Coleman) Miller of Lakewood, Colo.; sons Cody (DonaMae) Workman of Richfield, Utah; Michael (Amy) Strickland of Eagar; Cory (Shavon) Workman of Richfield, Utah; Bradey Workman of Mesquite, Nev.; DK Workman of Eagar; mother-in-law Iva F. Slade of Central; brother Carl O’dell of Nevada; sisters Karen McQueen and Faye Barnes; and 14 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Vana Workman, father-in-law Conch Slade and son Chase Workman. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Eagar Stake Center, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow services at the Eagar Cemetery.
