Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow, Winslow, Arizona Flora Bonds October 05, 1921 - March 19, 2015 Flora Bonds - Sunrise Oct. 5, 1921, Sunset March 19, 2015 Flora Bonds; surrounded by her family; was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 19, 2015. She was born October 5, 1921 in Kelly, Louisiana to her late parents Thomas and Doretha Wooten. She was one of seven children born in this union. Five of her siblings have preceded her in death (Rosetta, Olivia, Herman, Ernest, and Thomas Jr.). On December 20, 1938 in Kelly, Louisiana Flora, was united in Holy matrimony to the late Isaac Whitney Bonds Sr. Flora and Isaac started their beautiful family in McNary, Arizona, and then settled in Winslow, Az sometime in the late 1940's. They built a beautiful life together raising six children, and they helped to build the St. Paul AME Church of Winslow. Isaac preceded Flora in death when he was called home to be with the Lord on October 6, 2000. Flora accepted Christ in her life at an early age. She was a devoted Mother, Grandmother, and Stewardess in the St. Paul AME Church where she served in several capacities for over 60 years. "Mother Bonds" as she was affectionately called enjoyed working with the children of the church. She was the producer and director of dramatic church plays presented at Easter, Mother's Day, and Christmas all celebrating the life of Christ who was always the center of her life. Flora worked in many different auxiliaries in the church such as mission societies, Stewardess Board, and the trustee board. In her earlier years she was an active member of both the Eastern Star and Elks Lodge. Flora enjoyed cooking for her family, socializing with friends and playing Bingo. She loved people and opened her door and heart to many people in need. Flora is known for her radiant smile that could light up any room and her great sense of humor. Her magnificent beauty was seen both inside .and out. She had an unmatched style and sophistication all her own. Flora was also known as one of God's precious prayer warriors. People enjoyed hearing her melodious sweet voice taking upward flight to reach the throne of grace in church services. Flora's beauty was handed down to her children who survive her in death: Roberta Lee Tinsley (the late Jim Tinsley), Dorothy B. Bailey (Wallace Bailey), Annie Ruth Thompson (Samuel Thompson), Isaac W. Bonds Jr. (Yvonne Bonds), Barbara J. Rodgers (J.B. Rodgers), and Bernestine Smith (J.Alfred Smith Sr.). Flora is also survived by her sister Betty Wooten, and her brother-in-law Leonard Williams (Yvonne Williams). Flora was blessed to also be survived by 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren along with a host of other relatives and dear friends. Special thanks to her team of caring doctors and hospice staff, her Pastor the Reverend Steven Garnett, Steward and Stewardess Mr. and Mrs. Wilhoite, and the rest of her church family at St. Paul AME Church. Flora's family would also like to extend special acknowledgment to the families of her dearest and closest friends who have preceded her in death: Leola Renfro, Lenice Mayberry, Christina Hanna, and Ruby Williams. The Bonds family thanks all of you for your continued love, support. Every card, flower, kind word, thought and consolation has warmed our hearts and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church, 411 N. Warren Ave, Winslow, AZ at 11:00 am on March 28, 2015, Reverend Steven Garnett officiating. Interment will be at Desert View Cemetery in Winslow, AZ. Repast at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ after Funeral Services Corner of 4th and Pope.
