James Arthur "Jim" Hartfield, 76, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2015. He was born June 21, 1938 in Wheeling, West Virginia to Robert Fred Hartfield Sr. and Mary Leona (Davis) Hartfield.
Jim went on a mission to the Belgian Congo, where he taught in a small village university. He barely made it out during the revolt where over 100,000 people died. He had a passion for peace.
He was a researcher at UCLA where he met his bride of 40 years, Kathryn (Hurd) Hartfield. Jim went to Optometry School and he was planning on opening a clinic for the less advantaged, but his health took a turn for the worse. In his spare time he enjoyed traveling the U.S. and abroad with his late wife Kathryn.
Jim is survived by his brother, Robert "Bob" Hartfield (Jackie); sisters, Mary Kay Bleifus and Dorothy Creamer; nieces, Cyndi Gentle (Mike), Kathy lee Barrio (Ron), Tammy Martinez (Joe); and nephews, Robert Hartfield (Jenny) and Timothy Creamer (Sheri). He is preceded in death by his mother Mary Leona Hartfield; his father Robert F. Hartfield Sr.; and his beautiful wife Kathryn (Hurd) Hartfield.
Private family services will be held.
Arrangements by Heritage Funeral Chapel, 6830 W. Thunderbird Road, Peoria, AZ 85381. In lieu of flowers remembrances in Jim's name may be given to the ALZ.org (Alzheimer's Association)
