Toleman Michael Casey lived a life that was most coveted, a life of accomplishments, love, and family.
Born to Emma Clayton and Robert Casey on Oct. 4, 1955, he was the eldest and only boy of his siblings, which are Pearlina Smith, Emogene Casey, and Berdina GreyBull. Although Emma and Robert were their parents, they were raised by Mary Louis Clayton and Joseph Clayton.
As a boy, Toleman spent his summers with his siblings swimming in the brisk river near them and playing a game they called “tag the wash.” A fond childhood memory they all shared was of a frosty winter day when they took shelter in a small cavern they had all built into the hillside and made a fire that had them coughing their lungs out because there was only one opening to this cavern that they rushed out of.
After time had turned child foolishness and academic endeavors into cherished memories, Toleman decided to join the United States Army on Aug. 8, 1976, nearing his 21st birthday. Shortly after, he excelled himself as a paramedic into the 101st Airborne, which he called the “Widow Makers” or “Screaming Eagles” The credibility and recognition he gained from serving his country was to the benefit of his family and community. Toleman continued his medical career as the first paramedic for the San Carlos EMT. His niece Anita GreyBull always knew when her uncle “Bobby” would drive by her house in the ambulance, so each time he did she made sure everyone knew that “Bobby” was driving; the nickname had since stayed with him.
Bobby’s life was most fulfilled by enjoying the lives of his nieces and nephews, from the time each one was brought home for the first time to celebrating every birthday with them. He was more than willing to take them on a cruise to wherever he happened to go, and when they came back they always had sweets in hand. The treasures of Bobby’s life are found within each member of his family, so the love he shared will live long past him.
