GRIEST, Norman Eugene (Norm)


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Wednesday, April 08, 2015 Norman Eugene Griest was born Aug. 4, 1933, in Wellsville, York County, Pennsylvania, to Ida Marie and Paul Alexander Griest. Norm was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, and his daughters, Marie and Nancy. Norm is survived by his former wife, Mona Griest; their children, Deborah, Robert (Sally), Patricia (Jim), Beverly, Andrew (Eliza), Dewayne, and his son-in-law, Ron Stockman. Norman is also survived by his wife of 36 years, Jo Traynor Griest; her children, Diane, Terry (Jan), Catherine, and Rebecca; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Norman and Jo moved to Chino Valley from Huntington Beach, California, in 1985, and began a wonderful new life owning and operating The Pepperstone Restaurant, and Quality Feed and Supply. Norm was a founding and active member of the Chino Valley Methodist Church, and until retiring in 1999, he was active in the Lion's Club and Search and Rescue. From 1991 through 1995, he was also a Chino Valley City Councilman. Norman died at home on Friday, March 6, 2015, under Hospice Family Care, and his family expresses their deepest thanks for the caring and compassionate help. His body was donated to Science Care for medical research. Services are planned for 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at Chino Valley Methodist Church, 735 E. Road 1 South. Norm loved animals, and his family suggests that in lieu of flowers, any memorial donations be sent to either Horses with Heart or the Yavapai Humane Society. Information provided by survivors.
