David Bill Barnes, 72, longtime resident of Show, Low died April 6, 2015, after a very short battle with cancer, with his children and wife by his side. Dave passed in the home of the couple’s winter residence of Tonto Basin. He was born April 7, 1943, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Dave lived a very busy and beneficial life from the ripe age of 12 years old. He started as a ranch hand in Phoenix for many years. He then married his love, Joanna, in 1967. They both had the love of the ranch life, which then for Dave proceeded into the life of a police officer from 1974-77. Dave worked with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office as a reserve officer. He then proceeded to the Peoria Police Department from 1977-88.
From there, Dave and his wife of 48 years decided to move to the White Mountains of Arizona, where he joined the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office in 1990 until retirement in 2005.
He is survived by his wife, Joanna Barnes; son Michael David (Margarete) Barnes; three daughters and their spouses, Wendy Ann and Jeff Hustad, Barbara Gayle Barnes, Jennifer Jodie and Tony Kelley; sister Ellen; brother-in-law Tom Toney; along with nine grandchildren and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father, William C. Barnes, and mother Edith J. Barnes, both of Phoenix, and twin daughters, Christina and Sandra Barnes, also of Phoenix.
Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 25, at the Mountain Ridge Baptist Church, 23104 N. 67th Ave., Glendale, AZ 85310.
