Aladino (Al) Cimarelli, 97, of Dewey, Arizona passed away peacefully at home on March 6, 2015.
He was born in Longacre, West Virginia on March 23, 1917 to Letizia (Catalani) Cimarelli and Nick Cimarelli.
In the 1930s his family moved to Detroit, where Al lived most of his life. Al married his dear wife Jennie (Trapani) on Oct. 6, 1945. His life-long music profession began at age 11, when Al started playing accordion at events in Detroit. He used his brilliant talents playing piano, accordion and organ in a career spanning more than 50 years. Part of the "Men About Town" trio, Al performed on Detroit's WJR Radio Station, traveled for the Ford Motor Company and played at Topinka's Country House restaurant.
He was a member of the Detroit Federation of Musicians for 78 years. In the 1950s, Al owned and operated Detroit's Blue Danube restaurant, proudly serving Italian recipes from his family's home province of Tuscany. In 1978, Al moved to Arizona where he and both sons owned and operated the Hub Cafe (Cordes Junction, Arizona) for many years, and later the Hub Steakhouse (Prescott Valley, Arizona). He is remembered as a generous, compassionate, family man with a lively sense of humor.
Al is survived by his wife Jennie Cimarelli; daughters Maria Cimarelli, Donna Cimarelli Harriman and Anne Cimarelli-Stears (Paul); and grandchildren Joseph Sloan, Anthony Sloan, Nicholas Sloan, Marcela Cimarelli and Robert Angelo Cimarelli. He was predeceased by sons Gary and Robert.
Services were on March 16, 2015 at Heritage Memorial Cemetery in Dewey, Arizona. A memorial mass will be given at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mayer, Arizona at a future date.
