The Eastern Arizona Courier, Safford, Arizona ~ April 15, 2015 Geraldean Briggs, of Central, passed away in her home April 9, 2015. She was 88. Geraldean was born Nov. 12, 1926, in Putnum, Texas, to William and Willie McDonald. She was the second child of nine siblings. When she was a young child, her family moved to Arizona in a Model T. Geraldean grew up farming with her family and told many humorous stories about her childhood. In her late teens, she met and fell in love with her late husband, Denzel Briggs. They were married March 20, 1946. After his service in World War II, they bought a small farm in Elfrida and had three children. When their children were grown, they spent several years in Phoenix and owned a janitorial service. After retiring, she and her husband lived the good life. They lived out of an RV and traveled, spending a large portion of their free time fishing and enjoying life with their grandkids. Geraldean lived a full life and was affectionately known by many as “Granny B.” Geraldean is preceded in death by: her husband, Denzel; her sons, Dempie and Larry; and her parents. She is survived by: her loving daughter, Janet; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and seven siblings. Funeral services for Granny B will be conducted Thursday afternoon, April 16, 2015, at 2 p.m., at The River Community Church by Pastor David Chapman. Concluding services will follow in the Safford Cemetery. Family will receive friends Wednesday evening, April 15, 2015, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., at the Vining Funeral Home.
